CONDITIONS OF LET on the BOWHILL ESTATE

PERIOD OF LET
All lochs are open from 1st April to 25th October.  Fishing is offered on a 9 am - 4 pm or 4 pm to dusk basis.

RENT
The cost of fishing each of the Trout Lochs at Bowhill is £50.00 (inc. VAT) per boat per day, 9 am - 4 pm, or £40.00 (inc. VAT) per boat per evening, 4 pm - dusk.  The rent is payable in advance on confirmation of booking and is non-returnable.

BOAT
Boats are provided for fishing only and are to be returned to their moorings, properly secured and locked before you leave.  Only 2 rods are permitted per boat, which are fitted with oars, rowlocks, and anchor.  Life jackets must be worn and those provided must be returned to the shelter after use.  Fishing Tenants use the boat at their own risk and must satisfy themselves that the boat and its equipment are safe. They will be responsible for the conduct and safety of their party.

FISHING
Fishing is by rod and barbless fly only and should be carried out in a sportsmanlike manner.  The basket is limited to the first three fish caught per rod per day. All fish that are not being retained are to be returned carefully to the water as quickly as possible with the minimum of handling.

RETURNS
An accurate record of all fish caught, including those returned, is to be kept in the fishing book in the shelter and is to be completed before leaving.

PARKING
Cars are to be left in the parking place provided adjacent to the Loch at the owner’s risk.

GENERAL
All persons coming onto the Estate do so at their own risk and The Buccleuch Estates Ltd or Buccleuch Sporting Ltd will accept no responsibility for any claim for loss or damage arising from the granting of this permission.

In addition, anyone entering the Estate for the purpose of fishing will undertake:

  • To allow fish caught and fishing tackle to be inspect by anyone authorised by the Estate Manager or Head Keeper.
  • Not to introduce any stock to the water or interfere with the management of the Loch.
  • To protect the water from poaching or illegal methods of fishing.
  • Not to damage trees or plants or obstruct the Lochs or Loch banks.
  • Not to light fires which is strictly prohibited.
  • Not to bring dogs on to the Estate.
  • To report any damage to the boats, shelter or any other equipment to the Estate Office.
  • Not to leave litter in the boats or surrounding area and make use of the litter bin provided in the shelter.

SEASONAL PERMITS
In addition to the above terms and conditions:

  1. You will be entitled to use one boat each Saturday from 3rd April to 25th October 2008 inclusive.
  2. You may be accompanied by two other people who may fish in your presence provided no more than two rods per boat are fishing at any one time.  However, if you are unable to accompany your guests, you must inform the Estate Office giving the name of the person delegated to take your place.  People who commence fishing in the morning are not permitted to change with other people during the day.
  3. The permit price for the season will be £820.00 + VAT (between 9 am - 4 pm) or £410.00 + VAT (between 4 pm - dusk) payable in advance and made out to Buccleuch Sportings Limited.
  4. In the event of unforeseen circumstances occurring during the fishing season, the Estate reserves the right to close the Loch to fishing and if closed for an unreasonable length of time, a proportion of the rent will be reimbursed.
