The seven Trout lochs on the Queensberry Estate at Drumlanrig Castle in Dumfries & Galloway, South West Scotland, are all situated, without a doubt, amongst some of the country's secluded and most beautiful scenery.  Each loch has something special to offer giving a variety of experiences for the discerning Trout fisherman.

KETTLETONHEAD
Approx 35 Acres     Max rods = 30

Kettletonhead Loch has proved to be very popular with regular clients wishing to try something new as well as clients new to our loch fishings since it was taken in hand at the beginning of 2008.  It is considerably larger than our other lochs and will take up to a maximum of 30 rods at a time.  Nestling amongst the magnificent Lowther Hills, high above the village of Thornhill to the east, its serene beauty is second to none.  Stocked with quality Rainbow Trout, it is ideal for use by fishing clubs and for competitions.  There is a boathouse with two boats equipped with oars, rowlocks and anchor (life jacket essential and can be provided) available for separate hire on a first come basis.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.


MORTON CASTLE
Approx 8 acres    Max rods = 8

Situated a few miles to the east of Drumlanrig Castle beneath the ancient ruins of Morton Castle, the ancestral seat of the Earl of Morton and the Douglas family.  The loch is stocked with quality Rainbow Trout and also contains wild Brown Trout.  The average Rainbow Trout caught from this beautiful loch weighs in between 2lb-3lbs with some 4 pounders being caught. There is a boathouse with boat equipped with oars, rowlocks and anchor (life jacket essential and can be provided) which can be hired separately on a first come basis.  A maximum number of 8 rods is available.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.



STARBURN LOCH
Approx 3 acres     Max rods = 4

Also known as the Starn Loch, the still waters of this serene loch are surrounded by the ancient woodland of the Drumlanrig Castle Estate.  As with all our lochs, it is stocked with quality Rainbow Trout and also contains wild Brown Trout.  There is a boathouse and boat equipped with oars, row-locks and anchor (life jacket essential and can be provided) available for separate hire on a first come basis.  Starburn can take a maximum of 4 rods but can be booked exclusively for 3 rods at a special price.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.


 

HILLHEAD
Approx 2.5 acres     Max rods = 3

Hillhead Loch was brought into the Drumlanrig Castle Fishings trout loch stock for the first time in the 2007 season following improvements and has proved to be a popular loch with our fishermen.  It is located in a beautiful, gentle setting amongst the ancient woodlands surrounding Drumlanrig Castle, above Coldstream Loch, within a short distance from the Castle amenities.  It is stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout and is suitable for bank fishing only with a maximum of 3 rods.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.


 

FARTHINGBANK
Approx 2 acres     Max rods = 3

Farthingbank became available again for fishing as part of Drumlanrig Castle Fishings in 2007 following an extensive  restoration programme.  Stocked with Rainbow and Brown Trout, Farthingbank is suitable for bank fishing and can take a maximum of 3 rods.  It is situated north west of Drumlanrig Castle within the wider Queensberry Estate but within easy reach of the Castle amenities.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.



SLATEHOUSE
approx 2 acres

Piers were recently built over the soothing waters of Slatehouse Loch to provide the ultimate bank fishing experience.  Located within the beautiful parkland of Drumlanrig Castle, the loch is well stocked with top quality Rainbow Trout and also has wild Brown Trout.  There is a boathouse and boat equipped with oars, rowlocks and anchor (life jacket essential and can be provided) which can be hired separately on a first come basis.  There is a maximum of 3 rods.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.


 

COLDSTREAM
Approx 1.5 acres     Max rods = 3

The still waters of this peaceful loch are surrounded by the ancient woodlands of the Drumlanrig Castle country park and provides good bank fishing up to a maximum of 3 rods.  It is stocked with quality Rainbow Trout and also contains wild Brown Trout.  Coldstream is easily accessible and is within a short distance of the Castle amenities.  Evening tickets can be purchased depending on availability.
