GrouseThere are over 20,000 acres of heather moorland at Queensberry split up into 3 separate moors: Durisdeer, Wanlockhead and North Sanquhar which has recently come back in-hand after an extensive conservation programme. Annual bags over the last few years have varied along with the number of shoot days depending on the condition of the birds and how well they fly at the start of the season.
All 3 beats have spectacular views across the magnificent and diverse landscape making up the Queensberry Estate. The elevation of the moors is phenomenal, ranging from 1,200 ft of rolling moorland and within a short distance, rising to 2,000 ft of steep, undulating slopes producing exceptional sport. The moors are well-maintained by burning, giving a patchwork of colour on the hills and ensuring a variety of different ages of heather amongst which the grouse can live. Walked-up, Driven and Hawked days are offered.
